放置していたブログの再開を決めたチスイです
前回の記事を投稿してから10ヶ月弱、更新したいと思うネタはあってもなかなか出来ませんでしたがようやく重たい腰を上げる事が出来ました。
そんな訳でブログ再会1発目はボクのブログ更新を止めた原因とも言えるゲーム「Europa Universalis 4（ヨーロッパユニバーサリス）」通称EU4について！
今後プレイ録なども残せればいいかなと思っているのですが、今回はボクがドハマリしたゲームEU4についての全体的なレビューをできれば良いかなと思います！
中世～近世を舞台にしたストラテジー、それがEU4
まずEU4とはどんなゲームかというとストラテジーゲーム、日本でいうと「信長の野望」シリーズや「三国志」シリーズがメジャーなジャンルのゲームです。舞台は中世～近世の時代（1444年～1821年）のおよそ400年間の世界を舞台にしたゲームです
タイトルは「ヨーロッパ」ユニバーサリスですが、舞台はヨーロッパだけではなく当時の国の状況などをかなり細かく再現した世界中の国でプレイする事が出来ます
この時代ヨーロッパでは普通の人がよく知るスペインやドイツ、イギリスなどもまだ成立しておらず、その前身となる国家がひしめき合っています。これらの国家を統一しよく知る国家へとまとめていくというのも1つの楽しみ方です
日本はといえば、戦国時代突入直前、いわゆる応仁の乱が今にも始まりそうな状況から始まります。EU4ではこのような時代背景を取り入れて「幕府と大名」という日本独自のシステムを構築しており、戦国時代を勝ち残り楽しみ、統一していく事が出来ます
もちろんこのような特定の地域独自のシステムは当時のそれぞれの文化圏ごと、或いは特定の国のみという形で取り入れられており、1度のプレイで全てを触る事が出来ないので様々な国でプレイしていく事になります
端的にいえば信長の野望を内包した、世界版信長の野望とも言えるのがEU4です
信長の野望感じていた違和感から辿り着いたEuropa Universalis 4
まず始めにボクのストラテジーゲーム歴はおおよそコンシューマー機にまとまっています。信長の野望シリーズも全部ではないもののプレイしていますしそこでストラテジーゲームとはこういうものというイメージが作られたと思います
ただ「信長の野望」や「三国志」を遊ぶ上でボクには1つ違和感がありました。それはこれらのシリーズは「一地域の切り抜きのはずである」という事です
確かに日本は島国で外的勢力、他国からの侵攻を受けた機会というのは決して多くはありません。ただ実際に影響は受けていたはずでそこをばっさりカットしている（南蛮商人の存在などまったく触れていないわけではありませんが）という印象があったんですよね
もちろんゲームとしてそれで成立する形になっているのでそれはそれで良いわけなんですが……
そんな表現しにくい違和感を覚えていた中で出会ったのがEU4でした
まだPCでゲームをするという事にあまり慣れてなくて、それこそEU4がきっかけでSteamを深く知っていく事になるレベルだったボクからすればEU4のスケールの広さには正直感動を覚えました
日本が戦国時代を繰り広げている間、他の地域はどうなっていたのか、そんな様子すら窺い知る事ができるようになっていたのです
ボクの頭の片隅にあった違和感を払拭した事、それがEU4にハマる最初のきっかけだったのかもしれません
ボクがEU4にハマった要因
幅広い年代とそれぞれの地域の再現度の高さ
最初に書いたようにEU4でプレイ出来る年代はおよそ400年もあり非常に幅広いです
スタートも必ずしも1444年である必要はなく、なんと1日単位でスタートするタイミングを選ぶ事が出来ます
1日単位で何がそんなに変わるの？と言われると……歴史的事件をしっかり再現している点にあります
またまた分かりやすいので日本で見ていくと……
天下分け目と言われた関ヶ原の戦い
関ヶ原の戦い自体は1600年10月21日に行われているわけですが……
前日の10月20日まで本州の主だった所の中でも薄緑の徳川、赤の織田（豊臣）、黄色の毛利といるのが……
10月21日になると織田（豊臣）と毛利の領土が一気に縮小されほぼ徳川の物になっていたりします（しかもシステム上の幕府もこの時、織田（豊臣）から徳川に移譲されている）
このような形はもちろん日本だけではなくプレイ可能な全ての世界中の国が連動して動いているのです。
同じ事が各国の君主にも言えます。例えば
織田信長が死亡した本能寺の変を見てみると……
本能寺の変が発生する1582年6月21日の直前、1582年6月20日までは確かに織田信長が織田家の当主として登場しているのに対し、
翌6月21日にはしっかり豊臣秀吉に切り替わっています（流石に織田家の分裂はないですがしっかり代替わりはしているといえる）
もちろんこれは日本に限った話ではなく世界中の国で同じように国の変遷が変わっていきます。国境線も少しずつ変わっていき、少しずつですが今のそれぞれの地域の国境線に近づいていくのです
実際にプレイを始めるとプレイヤーの介入はもちろん他の国を操作するCPUも歴史に準拠するわけではないのでズレていくのだが、それはストラテジーゲームの性であり、楽しい部分であるとも言えるでしょう。ただこの再現度の高さがそのまま楽しさに繋がっているのは間違いないと思います。
世界制覇が当たり前ではない
ストラテジーゲームで最終的な目標は何かと問われれば多くのゲームでは「実装されている地域を全て征服する事」に帰結するのではないでしょうか？
ただEU4においてはこの世界征服、尋常じゃなく難しいです。世界征服に向いているだろうと言われる国でプレイしたとしても多くの知識とテクニック、そして運が絡まなければ世界征服を達成する事は出来ません
ただ考えてみれば当たり前で現代に至るまで「世界征服を完遂した国って存在しない」んですよね
ちょうどEU4の年代に該当する歴史上1番の大帝国と言われる大英帝国（イギリス帝国）ですら飛び飛びに植民地を抱えているからこその大きさであり、ヨーロッパもアフリカもアジアも統一した事はないんですよ
なのでEU4では必ずしも世界征服を達成してクリアではない楽しみ方を見出す事が出来ます
それこそ史実再現国境の実現やまだ存在しないドイツやスペインの建国などに力を注いでもいいでしょう
スケールの広さが結果的に幅広い遊び方を作り出しているといえます
やれる事の多さはストラテジーでも屈指
EU4もストラテジーゲームなので、単純に戦争をするだけではなく、内政や外交を有利に進める事も重要なのですが……それぞれにやれる事の種類が多岐に渡ります。ストラテジーゲームではよくやれる事が多すぎて何からやればいいか分からないと言われますが、EU4はその中でも最高峰といえるのではないでしょうか
しかもEU4はターン制ではなく進めようと思えばどんどん時間が進んでいくリアルタイムストラテジーに分類されるタイプのゲームなので、全く何もしなくても時間が過ぎていきます
おおよそこの時代に出来る事の多くは出来るようになっているので考え込む要素は非常に多く充実感があります
遊び心満点の実績群
実績集めも好きなボクとしては非常に嬉しい要素となっているのがEU4の実績群。なんとこの実績群、この記事を書いている時点で300を超える実績が存在しています
内容も単純なものもありますが、特定の国で史実再現をするような実績から、ダジャレのような実績、本当に難易度が高く、それこそ世界征服よりも難しいと言われるような実績まで非常に幅広く存在しています
それこそプレイ国家も多く触る機会がなかなかないような地域、国をプレイする1つのきっかけにもなりますし、そうする事でそれぞれの地域独自の要素に触る機会も増やされる結果になっています
狙って取らなければ取れないものも多いだけに非常にやりごたえのある実績が多いのもEU4の特徴です
購入前に思いそうな疑問のQ&A
さてさてこの記事を読んでありがたい事にEU4が気になったという方がSteamの販売ページに行ったとしましょう。その時点で気になるだろう2つの事についても紹介していきます
DLCの多さはどうなの？
EU4の大きな特徴の1つが、本体の圧倒的な安さにあります。通常時でおよそ4000円、セールなどのタイミングを狙えば1000円台での購入も可能なほどで他のストラテジーゲームと比較、ボリュームを加味すると本体価格は抑えめです
その代わりというわけではありませんがEU4は非常にDLCが多く、全てを一気に買い揃えようとすると相当な金額がかかります
ただEU4のDLCは「より個性を出す為のもの」である場合が多く、なくともプレイする事は可能になっています。特定の地域にスポットを当てたDLCなどはその近辺の国でプレイしないのであれば不要という声もある程です。もちろんCPUとして対峙した時の強さにも直結する場合もありますが、それはある程度慣れ親しんでからの要素とも言えるのではないでしょうか
いきなり全てを買い揃える必要は全くないので必要だと感じたDLCを少しずつ買い足していく形でも十分だと思います
またボク自身は使用していませんが、最近では月額を払う事で全DLC導入状態になるサブスクリプションも始まっているのでそちらを検討してみても良いかもしれません
日本語対応してないよ？
EU4は元々スウェーデンの会社が開発・販売しているゲームで、残念ながら日本語のローカライズは行われていません。厳密にはシリーズ作であるEU4の過去作はローカライズされていたのですが、ローカライズを担当していた会社の倒産でローカライズが行われなくなってしまったのです
その為、Steamのストアページを見ると「日本語はサポートしていません」となっているので英語でプレイしなければならない……かといえばそんな事はありません
なんと有志の方々が作った「日本語化MOD」なるものが存在しているのです。この日本語化MOD非常に優秀で、ゲーム中ほぼ全ての部分を翻訳してくれており、しかも機械翻訳ではなく日本人が読んでも違和感のない形に翻訳してくれています。その為、英語が全く出来なくともプレイは可能です
もちろんあくまでもMODなのでEU4本体のアプデ直後などは対応までに少し時間がかかりますが、それも数日で対応する場合がほとんどなので快適にプレイする事ができます
EU4はこんな人に勧めたい
さてさて最後にまとめるとEU4は
中世～近世の世界中の国を舞台としたゲームであり、それぞれの地域の特色をしっかりと取り入れる事でプレイする国家によって全くプレイ感の異なる遊び方が出来る懐の広いゲームです
今回は多くの例として日本を取り上げましたが日本以外の国家でももちろんプレイが可能でヨーロッパはもちろん、世界中の国家でプレイが可能です
またストラテジーゲームの中でもかなり実績が多いゲームでもあるので
・世界規模の中の日本でプレイがしてみたい ・史実再現を楽しみたい ・様々な実績に挑戦したい
という人にもオススメ出来ます
