Chromeに実装された同じものに感じる2つの動作モード

息の長いソフトウェアって色々な機能がアップデートで追加される事がしばしばあります。ただこれらのソフトウェアって具体的な説明はしっかり自分が確認にいかないとアップデート内容を知る機会は少なくて、いつの間にこんな機能増えたの？という機能がチラホラと。
ボクはGoogleChromeをメインのブラウザにしているんですけど、GoogleChromeにもそんな機能があってそれがゲストモード！以前からシークレットモードというモードは存在していたのは知っていますけどこれって何が違うんだろう？
と気になったので調べてみました。今回は備忘録として2つのモードの違いについてまとめていきます。
シークレットモードとは？
まずはじめに以前から存在していたシークレットモードという機能について。シークレットモードとはシークレットモード中に閲覧したブラウザの履歴、Cookie、検索履歴などがシークレットモードを終了（タブを閉じる）とすべて削除されるモードの事です。
簡単に言えば、以降に使う人が使った事が分からないモードという事ですね。
家族で共有しているパソコンや共有スペースで利用出来るパソコンなど他人も使う事が出来るパソコンを使用する場合に使用するモードだと言われています。
シークレットモードの開き方
シークレットモードを開くにはブラウザ右上の三点リーダーから「シークレットウィンドウを開く」を選ぶ事で専用のウィンドウが開きます。
もしくはリンク先をシークレットモードで開きたい場合には該当のリンクを右クリックする事でも選ぶ事が可能です。
シークレットモードでは専用のウィンドウが開き、通常モードと同じウィンドウのタブに入れる事は出来ないという事は覚えておきましょう。
シークレットモードなのに情報が漏れる？
パソコンではそれぞれのサービスのIDやPASSを入力する機会も多く、シークレットモードは非常に有効なモードなのですが難点もあります。それは通常モードで使用していた情報を反映してしまう事にあります。
具体的に言うと、通常モードで設定したブックマークや検索の際の予測候補、搭載している拡張機能や保存しているパスワードなどはそのままシークレットモードにも反映されてしまうのです。
シークレットモードはあくまでもシークレットモードを使用している間の情報の漏洩を避ける為のものであり、シークレットモードを使用する側から通常モードの利用情報を探る事は多少知識のある人なら比較的容易です。
いってしまえば通常モードからシークレットモードに一方通行で情報が漏洩する恐れのある状態で、故意ではないにせよ持ち主の情報を見てしまう場合があるのです。

ゲストモードとは？
一方でゲストモードは通常モードと相互に一切干渉しない特別なモードです。イメージとしては一時的にGoogleChromeの使用を開始した時のまっさらな状態のウィンドウを作り出すモードと言った印象です。
ブックマークや拡張機能なども隔離されているので使用出来ない為、自分の持っているパソコンを他人に貸し出しする場合に有効で、同時にゲストモードで使用されていた時の履歴も一切残らないので不用意に相手の個人情報を知ってしまう心配もありません。
ちなみにゲストモードではGoogleChromeの機能が一部制限され、主に長期で利用するのに便利になる「ブックマーク」や「拡張機能」、標準で搭載されている「閲覧履歴の消去」などの機能は使用する事が出来ません。
もしこれらの機能を使用するもう1つのウィンドウが欲しいのであればそれは「アカウントの追加」で対応する必要があります。
ゲストモードの開き方
ゲストモードはシークレットモードを開く際に使用した三点リーダーの隣、ユーザーアイコンをクリックして開きます。
ユーザーアイコンをクリックすると選べるメニューの中の「ゲストウィンドウを開く」を選択するとゲストモードを起動する事が出来ます。
開く場所が違うって覚えやすいけど分かりにくいよな
敢えてそうしているのかもしれませんね。
シークレットモードとゲストモードの違い
シークレットモードとゲストモードは非常に近い機能ですが細部に違いがあります。まとめとしてシークレットモードとゲストモードの違いをまとめておきます。
シークレットモードは通常モードから一方通行で色々な情報が見れるがゲストモードではそれも不可能になる。
シークレットモードは履歴が残らないという点を除けば通常モードと変わらずに機能を使う事が出来るがゲストモードでは一部機能の使用がそもそも不可能。またシークレットモードはウィンドウをいくつも開く事も可能だがゲストモードではウィンドウは1つだけなどゲストモードは通常モードとの細部の違いもある
拡張機能などの設定をそのまま反映したい場合にはシークレットモードを使う必要がありますね！
スマホ版GoogleChromeにはシークレットモードは搭載されていますがゲストモードは搭載されていません。
スマホ自体にゲストユーザーを追加するモードなんてのがあったりするからそっちを使う前提だと思うぜ！
ゲストモードとはいっても慢心してはいけない！
ゲストモードはシークレットモードに比べても機密性が高く、ゲストモード以外での情報に一切関与しないモードです。他人にPCを貸し出す場合やプレゼンテーションの場など有効的に活用出来る場面があるのも間違いありません。
とは言ってもゲストモードの機密性にも限界はあります。当たり前ですがゲストモード中であっても何らかのサービスを利用すれば、利用した履歴がサービス側には記録されますし、使用している最中に後ろから覗き見られる、キーロガーなど物理的な監視機能がある場合などは当然ゲストモードでも対処しきれません。
ゲストモード自体は非常に便利な機能なので活用するべきですが、慢心は命取りとなるので注意が必要です！
